Plum brandy from Eastern Europe, especially Serbia, Croatia, and Hungary. The Balkan national spirit. Made by fermenting and distilling plums. Serbian slivovitz is protected by geographical indication. Often aged in oak for 3-10 years. Traditionally consumed at slivas, plum harvesting festivals. Over 70% of Serbian fruit brandy production is slivovitz.
