Strong, malty black tea from the Assam region of India. The Assam tea plant Camellia sinensis var. assamica is a different variety than Chinese tea. Discovered by Robert Bruce in 1823. The base for most English breakfast blends. Over 800 tea estates in Assam producing 700 million kg annually. The Brahmaputra river valley provides ideal growing conditions.
